Focal Points

If a garden doesn’t have an accent or a focal point the eye tends to wander rather than looking around and then resting on the point of interest. When a focal point is included in a design it draws attention to that specific area and it should reward the onlooker. Even the smallest of gardens can have a focal point within them but care needs to be taken with scale and positioning. A focal point doesn’t have to be an expensive statue it could be a beautiful pot, a stunning small tree, an architectural plant, a bird bath, a sun-dial or even a bright dash of colour. For me it is important that the focal point is in-keeping with it’s surroundings, that it is a thing of beauty and that it is a feast for the eyes.
